Chakras
What
are Chakras?
Chakras (shock-ruhs or chalk-ruhs) are disk-like energy centers that are found in our
energetic body. The chakra concept is part of the ancient Yoga traditions
of India. There are seven primary chakras aligned along the center of our
bodies from the top of our heads to the base of our spines. There are
numerous other chakras that can be found in our energetic body. There are
chakras on the palms of our hands, on each of our fingertips and even on the
soles of our feet.
Each chakra is represented by a brightly colored, multi-petaled lotus flower. The color and number of petals vary with each
chakra and like a flower, each chakra can be open or closed. They can be
budding or wilting away. The condition of the chakras reflect upon our
state of mind, physical health, emotional well-being and spirituality. How
do the Chakras work?
Each chakra is a whirling vortex of energy and corresponds to a major area of
our life. The chakras regulate the flow of energy entering and exiting our
energetic bodies. If a chakra is "balanced", energy is received
into the chakra from the world around us and is then release back into the
world. However, if the chakra is not in balance there can be difficulties.
The degree of difficulty can range from very minor to severe.
For example, the solar plexus chakra governs our energy levels, digestion,
anger and our sense of power. if the chakra is balanced we will be able to
make our own decisions, find our place in the world, establish a prosperous
career, feel confident and know a sense of self-worth.
But, if the chakra is deficient of energy we may be unable to make the
simplest of decisions, we may allow others to bully or push us around, we may
have problems finding or keeping a job and we may never feel a sense of
worthiness.
On the other hand, if the chakra's energy is excessive we may be too
aggressive, trying to run other people's lives and get them to do our
bidding. We may be pushy and overbearing, causing problems at work and in
relationships.
When chakras are out of balance they are similar to the drain in our kitchen
sink. If the energy is excessive it can be similar to the sink being
stopped up. There is so much energy in the sink no new energy can enter
without causing the sink to overflow. The energy that is already there
becomes stagnant and dirty.
If the energy level is deficient it can be like trying to do the dishes and
not putting in the drain plug. All the energy keeps leaking out, leaving
us with an empty sink. There are plenty of dishes to wash, but there is no
energy to wash them with and the dirty dishes continue to stack up in the sink.
