EFT
What
is EFT?
In 1991 a well-preserved iceman
was found by two German hikers in a glacier on the
border between Austria and Italy. He was called
"Otzi" after the Otzi Valley where he was
discovered. To learn more about his past
scientists have studied his body carefully.
Scientists estimate that he is at least 5,000 years
old. One of the most remarkable discoveries about
Otzi is that his body has numerous tattoos marking
relevant acupuncture points.
The concept of the energy
meridians and the flow of energy through our physical
bodies have been studied for thousands of years, across
many cultures. In 1979, after studying Applied
Kinesiology with John Diamond, Dr. Roger Callahan
develops a system called "Callahan Thought Field
Therapy" or TFT. It is based on the concept
that we must first "think" of our
problem. After zooming in on the problem or issue
we can then stimulate or activate specific meridian/acupuncture
points in a specific sequence to eliminate the issue.
In 1995 Gary Craig, a Stanford
educated engineer, developed EFT or "Emotional
Freedom Techniques" after studying with Dr.
Callahan. He simplified the sequence and began
offering training materials to interested
practitioners. Gary Craig established what is known
as the "Discovery Statement". It reads
as follows:
The cause of all negative
emotions is a
disruption in the body's energy system.
EFT or Emotional Freedom Techniques is a gentle,
yet fast acting, system that can help you balance
your body's energy systems, thus eliminating
negative emotions.
How
does EFT work?
There are 14 meridians or energy pathways that
traverse your body. These are the same
pathways that are used by acupuncturists world
wide. Acupuncturists insert needles in the points along
these energy meridians to balance the body's
energies and to bring about healing.
There are two
major differences between acupuncture and EFT.
One, you tune into your problem or issue. Two,
NO NEEDLES! Recent studies have proven that most
physical problems have an emotional component.
This indicates that our meridian system and our
psychology are closely linked. Therefore, if
we can balance the meridian system we can improve
our state of mind and well-being.
How
can EFT help me?
This incredibly simple system can be
used to rid yourself of negative emotions, relieve
pain, overcome phobias and even improve your golf
game. The
success rate of EFT is between 85-95%.
Unlike
traditional talk therapy there is no need to feel
the pain of the issue or to re-live it during a
session. Instead you will think of the problem
or issue, tap on the specific points and VOILA, no
more problem. You don't even have to tell the
practitioner what the problem is. Could it be
any simpler?
What
happens during an EFT session?
Before the
EFT session begins you will be
asked to determine what
areas you would like to focus upon. Based on the information you provide,
the practitioner will work with you to design an individualized
treatment plan to meet your needs.
Based on your treatment goals, the
practitioner will guide you through the process and
demonstrate the techniques of EFT.
Throughout the session you will be asked to indicate any sensations or reactions
by rating your level of discomfort on a scale from 0-10
with a 0 being no discomfort whatsoever and a 10 being
unbearable discomfort. This will help the
practitioner to better
customize your session and accelerate your overall improvement. You
will be provided with detailed instructions so you
can continue the work in the privacy of your
home. You will be able to use the skills you
learn in the session to work on other issues in your
life. NOTE: While some issues can be dealt with on your
own easily, other more complicated issues may
require the assistance of a practitioner.
